If you’ve been following the evolution of Paizo’s official modules for Foundry Virtual Tabletop from the beginning, you may recall a number of changes we’ve made over the years to our pricing model as we tested things out, figured out what did and didn’t work, and adjusted accordingly. One thing that remained consistent, however, was the availability of our adventure modules in two different versions: a “BUNDLE” version that included both a module and a PDF of the same adventure, and a discounted “CODE” version that only included the module and was only purchasable if you already owned the PDF. As convenient as this was, it was also a prime example of the kind of bespoke functionality that’s much easier to implement on a store platform developed entirely in-house than it is on a third-party platform that doesn’t natively support all of Paizo’s unique business needs, and we unfortunately lost the ability to offer both Foundry+PDF bundles and PDF ownership discounts when we migrated our store over last November.
We know that these options have been sorely missed, which is why I’m glad to be able to announce that our hard-working webstore team, working in concert with our partners at BigCommerce, have finally devised a way for us to begin offering digital bundles again. Starting today, whenever you purchase a Foundry module on the Paizo store you’ll have the option to add its PDF at a fraction of its usual price—$20 for one of our newer all-in-one Adventure Paths or compilations, and $10 for a single volume of a previous Adventure Path.
So, $99.99 for an Adventure Path module and PDF together?
That’s right. Which actually comes to $5 less than what you would have paid for all three volumes of an Adventure Path under the old model. We do realize that $99.99 is still a substantial investment, which is why we’ve also been working with our partners at Metamorphic Digital Studios to ensure that the new modules include extra bells and whistles like original music, custom digital dice, and other neat stuff that would have been harder to implement across three separate modules.
Yeah, about those three-volume Adventure Paths: What does this mean for them?
If you’re a fan of our three-volume Adventure Path Foundry modules, good news! We’re also going to be introducing the ability to buy all three volumes of a multi-part Adventure Path as a single $79.99 bundle with an option to also buy all three PDFs for $20, making its total price the same as one of our new hardcovers.
Does that mean you’re also bringing back the discount on Foundry modules for already owning the PDF?
Not at this time, unfortunately. Our new store platform doesn’t allow us to gate access to one product behind ownership of another, and none of the options we’ve considered to replace it have turned out to be viable for one reason or another. That doesn’t mean we’ve given up on looking for ways to reimplement that feature or offer a similar value some other way; it just means we’re not there yet.
Do I still get free PDFs with my print book subscriptions?
Yes. Those aren’t going anywhere.
Would I get free PDFs with my Foundry module subscription, if that was a thing that existed?
Yes. If that was a thing that existed. It’s not, currently, but we are very aware that it’s something many people have expressed an interest in.
I am pleased with this development and tempted to purchase one or more Adventure Paths, but I need one final incentive to do so.
